JONATHAN SCOTT CHINN  Director, Writer, Executive Producer

Scott has directed and photographed numerous music videos, short films, and commercials, both for Charred Oak Films and other companies.  He has recently worked as a director of photography on projects for FOX Japan, Keep a Child Alive, and others.  Scott has spent much of the past decade producing television commercials and digital content:  He’s worked with some great collaborators, shooting all over the world on budgets large and small, for clients like Smirnoff, GM, Nokia, Johnson & Johnson, UNICEF and many more.  Scott has a background in theater, and has directed many acclaimed plays and musicals for regional and educational theaters.  He operated an experimental theater company, TExT, in his home state of Oklahoma, while also producing a daily public radio program for KWGS-FM which featured internationally-known guests from the fields of politics, literature, science, and the arts.  Scott is currently developing a documentary about all the fascinating people he met while growing up as a child actor.  www.jonathanscottchinn.com

KENT MEISTER  Actor, Photographer, Writer, Creative Director

Kent Meister is an actor, writer, and photographer originally hailing from Tulsa, OK.  He has had critical success onstage in Viral, a New York Fringe Festival Outstanding Play and Independent Theater Bloggers Award recipient, and A Brief History of Murder and Adventure Quest, both written by Charred Oak partner Richard Lovejoy.  Other New York theater credits include Theater of the Arcade (Brick Theater), Penny Dreadful (Third Lowes Productions), Marisol (Dreamscape Theatre), and Twelfth Night: The Drinking Game (Legitimate Theater Company).  He has been seen onscreen in Guiding Light, As The World Turns, One Life to Live, The Onion News Network, Sad Sack Sally (independent feature), XX (co-starring Kevin Allison), Hunting, and Charred Oak's shorts The Scientists and The Ballad of Lance and Bill.  Kent has worn many hats on Charred Oak's recent music video and commercial shoots: Producer, assistant director, camera operator, editor, and more.  He also owns Kent Meister Photography, a Brooklyn-based studio specializing in headshot photography for actors and models.  www.kentmeisterphotography.com

KATIE IRISH  Producer, Designer, Finance Officer

A graduate of New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts (MFA in Costume Design, 2005), Katie has designed for film, commercials, magazines, and theater. She has served as the Assistant Designer on the Tony Award-winning revival of Fences starring Denzel Washington, as well as the recent Broadway productions of Promises, Promises, Shrek: The Musical, The Seagull (starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Peter Sarsgaard), and Is He Dead?  She is currently on the design team of Broadway's Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark, directed by Julie Taymor.  She has styled editorial work for Ladies’ Home Journal and Health magazines, in addition to other advertising and catalogue work. RICHARD LOVEJOY  Writer, Actor, Creative Director

Richard Lovejoy is an acclaimed writer and actor.  He has completed three feature film scripts, half a dozen plays, a web series, a radio play, and more.  As an actor, he's appeared in Rising Up! The Story of the Zombie Civil RIghts Movement, Nosferatu: The Brides of Blood, To Be Kept Inside a Trinket, his web series Four If By Space, as well as All My Children. Richard also originated the role of Franklin Elijah White in the critically acclaimed solo show The Dark Heart of Meteorology.  His hit play Adventure Quest has played multiple cities and sparked a movement of "video game theatre" that led to Brooklyn's popular "Game Play Festival."  He also wrote A Brief History of Murder, a controversial pair of interconnected plays centered on a grisly killing in Oklahoma, which is currently in development as a TV series.  The Legitimate Theater Company's smash hit Twelfth Night: The Drinking Game, which Richard directed and produced, enjoyed two sold-out runs in New York but is best known for traveling to New Orleans as a fundraiser for Katrina recovery.  nytheatre.com selected Richard as a 2009 Person of the Year, calling him "a true renaissance man."  He wrote the current Charred Oak projects Satan Camp and The Widowers.

The rules keep changing, and we like that.  Because it means the possibilities keep changing, too.  We’re all about doing great stuff for very little money, keeping up with all of the amazing new filmmaking technologies that are rolling out, and adapting to the interesting ways people find and consume content these days.

Our name refers to bourbon, not a forest fire.  We like bourbon a lot, forest fires...not so much.  We’re proudly based in Brooklyn.  Three of us originally hail from Oklahoma, so the other one has to suffer through a lot of “old stories.”  We believe that magic, although rare, is totally real.

We love to make stuff:  Music videos, short films, Web series, commercials, even movies and TV.  Check out our upcoming projects and you’ll see we have some pretty ambitious plans of our own...but we’d also love to make stuff for you!  Charred Oak can create, develop, and produce a variety of branded content.  We also have a broad set of creative and production skills that can be variously deployed to write, shoot, and/or manage all sorts of things.
